November 21, 2009. Frisco, TX. The Mustangs took to the ice with a short bench for the second straight game facing Plano Sr up in lovely Frisco, TX and for the second straight night the boys played virtually penalty free hockey (only 2 PIM tonight) and had 45 shots on their way to a 10-2 rout of Plano Sr. Alex Rife’s four goal night was followed by Jayson Fisher’s three goals, with Michael James, Stuart Campbell and Jordon Schon scoring the other three. Supporting players with assists where Michael James (3 assists and a four point night), Dalton Foster, Nick Aldi and Jayson Fisher. It is this reporter’s humble opinion that the refs had a difficult time managing the assists as they gave out very few assists. Goalie Jake Roessner faced 17 shots and stopped 15 as the offense kept the puck out of the defensive zone most of the evening with relentless fervor. The D core also did a good job of holding the blue line as well as the Mustang’s had another excellent team game. The Mustang’s move to 4-6 on the season.

November 5, 2009. Frisco, TX. Our Mustangs played a strong first two periods with goals from Dylan Johnson (Stuart Campbell), Dylan Isley (Stuart Campbell, Dalton Foster) and Dalton Foster (Jayson Fisher). However, the third period saw a complete meltdown as penalty trouble kept the team from being able to play at full strength and a relentless Rockwall attack led to the boys dropping their third straight game. Third period goals from Jayson Fisher (Jakob Young, Michael James) and Alex Rife (unassisted) proved to be not enough as the team fell 7-5. The team is 2-4 on the young season.

On a brighter note, the team welcomes back Jayson Fisher #16 as he plays out his senior year and Asa Lipsie #15 a transplant from the state of Washington. Please welcome our new roster additions.

October 15, 2009. Farmers Branch, TX. Your Grapevine Mustangs demonstrated resolve and determination in a very big come from behind win tonight beating Marcus in the final minute of the game. It was a game that saw the Mustangs give up four unanswered goals in the second period, a second hat trick by a Mustang in so many games, questionable calls against the boys, and our coach watching from the stands. The Mustangs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead by a goal from Chris Stovall at the 2:20 mark of the first period (assisted by Jordan Schon). Dalton Foster’s first goal (14:32, assists by Quinn Hardtke and Alex Rife) of the young season put the Mustangs in the lead for a second time in the period leading 2-1 after 1. The second period proved disastrous with four unanswered goals in the first eight minutes of the period. The Mustangs battled back with Alex Rife’s goal at 10:13 (Quinn Hardtke assist) that was quickly followed by Chris Stovall’s second tally of the night at 11:43 (unassisted) putting the Mustangs within reach trailing 5-4. A late Marcus goal ended the second period with the boys down by 2. The team began to fight back in the third period and at 11:52 Dylan Isley’s goal (assisted by Dalton Foster and Stuart Campbell) closed the gap to 6-5. Coach Court (with our Head Coach watching from the stands) pulled the goalie with a minute to go and Michael James streaked into the zone and planted a shot to tie the game at 14:16 (unassisted). Twenty-two seconds later Chris Stovall earned his hat trick (14:38, Dylan Isley assisted) to win the game for the Mustangs! A final score of 7-6 and your Mustangs are 2-1 on the season.

October 8, 2009. Euless, TX. Dylan Isley’s hat trick and four point night “ROCKED” Arlington Martin as the Mustangs won 5-2. The Mustang offense was led tonight by Dylan Isley (3 goals, 1 assist) and Jakob Young (1 goal, 3 assists) as your Mustangs led the entire game. The game entered the third period with our boys up 2-1 but an early power play goal by Alex Rife at 2:21 of the period (GWG) that was quickly followed by Dylan Isley’s hat trick goal at 3:43 sealed the deal. Jakob Young added the fight tally at the 4:20 mark (3 goals in 2 minutes!). Our Mustangs’ not only had to beat Martin but also the refs as your Mustangs played shorthanded for 32 minutes of the 45 minute contest. The penalty kill was 100% due to outstanding kill effort by a super TEAM effort. Jake Roessner’s net minding was outstanding (stopped 36 of 38 shots) as Jake made key save after key save in the early going. The Mustang coaching staff was pleased with the team performance tonight as the offense lit the board up and the defense played a solid game. The Mustangs moved to 1-1 on the season. The next game is scheduled for Thursday, October 15th with the time and place to be determined.

Farmers Branch, TX. The Grapevine High School Mustangs took to the ice for their first regular season game tonight versus the Denton County Spartans. The Mustangs coming off of a solid tournament performance just two weeks prior looked out of sync and unable to find a gear. The team struggled early giving up a goal at 2:15 in the first period and fell behind 3-0 after one period. The team looks to get back into the thick of it next Thursday, October 8 (Game TBD – still waiting on the league to publish schedule).
